We'll start off with clearing up a hoax that has been advertised though emails for a long time about the illegal poaching of turtle eggs in Costa Rica. Last weekend, the community of Ostional held the fourth edition of its traditional turtle egg fair. Its aim was to promote the consumption of food in various ways to prepare. You can read about this hoax by clicking here if you do not know what this is all about. Finally, on the 3rd of January this year, La Nación journalist Julio Peña wrote an article where he explains why the turtle eggs are collected and how two laws in 2002 and 2005 make this possible. If you are interested in knowing how this does not affect the turtle world population,

Letter from a former ex-pat
|
Former ex-pat Corry van Lith wrote us about her memories and experiences in Costa Rica, after having moved back home again many years ago.
Hello Ivo,
It's time for me to thank you for sending me your monthly newsletters! They are always worth reading because they are well written, versatile, extremely informative and often funny. The time I lived with my family in Costa Rica was so adventurous and educational and has had an enormous impact on all our lives.
The many beaches where we camped, watching the sunset and the starry sky drinking our 'ron con coca'. The country is so beautiful with it's rich flora and fauna and I remember each trip we made to explore the country.
Sometimes, when reading my Facebook messages, I long to go back and embrace all the wonderful friends we made over there.
Their warmness and sympathy is overwhelming and they always made us feel so welcome! After 30 years of absence, we are still in touch, can you imagine?
Although I'm too old to return to Costa Rica, I always think with fondness about that beautiful, colorful country and our friends over there. I'm so glad we all learned Spanish, which is imperative to better your stay and Costa Ricans appreciate so much your efforts. My memories are still vivid thanks to your newsletters!
I'm happy that you and your business associates are doing well and I wish you all the best.
Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous 2011!

Purchase Real Estate through IRA Funds
|
Just this month, we are closing on another purchase of a property through IRA funds, which has changed tremendously recently. Before it was easy, now it requires more paperwork. Attorney Roger Petersen tells us a bit more about it. Many people are unaware that they can transfer their IRA funds to a Self Directed IRA custodian which then would allow them to invest those funds in Costa Rican real estate. Choosing an investment portfolio mix for your IRA can be overwhelming in itself. Most people invest these retirement funds in a portfolio of stocks

Each American-European (Easy Properties de Costa Rica) broker is an independent operator with their own unique style, personality and way of doing business. But our real estate agents have a lot in common:
- Each broker is a full-time professional.
- Each broker holds themselves and their associates to the highest standards of integrity.
- Each broker is involved with their clients before, during and after the sale, assisting you in clearing hurdles throughout your relocation process.
- Each broker's number one concern is protecting your interests, no matter whether you are buying or selling property and regardless of your budget.
As a full-time professional, the American-European broker is able to guide, advise and support each client throughout the entire process of purchasing properties in Costa Rica, preventing and eliminating potential problems before, during, and after the sale.
The American-European Real Estate Group was established in 1998 and is the oldest and largest network of independent brokers in Costa Rica. Our brokers and their associates come from many countries and have served literally thousands of Costa Rica developers and clients from all over the world as they invest in or relocate to Costa Rica.
Our network covers Costa Rica from coast to coast and was formed in response to the informality that exists in the Costa Rica real estate market. Since there is no board of realtors, or real estate licensing required by the government, the founding members believed that a network of reputable brokers operating in the most popular areas would be a great benefit to themselves and to their clients.
Sincerely,
Ivo Henfling
American European Real Estate Group
