Motor Tours Central America
If you're an experienced rider and want to see Costa Rica, Central America or Mexico on a motorcycle, you can roll your own. We have the motorcycles and have been doing tours here for many years.
One of my favorites is the "Buddy Tour" where a couple of riding friends can have a good time together and see places at the rate they can absorb them. It's more flexible when we stop, and where we're going, with two or three guys. Of course, there are many variations on this theme.
A couple riding double… a couple couples riding double… or just one divorcee looking to change his luck.
Working with a guide from another company, we can bring six or eight riders on their own bikes from Brownsville, Texas to Costa Rica or Panama in one fifteen day extravaganza. Price includes shipping your bike back home. These are heady rides and you'll want your bike in tip top shape. It's not a race…you can ride the family Harley, zip along on your Z 1000 Rocket Sled… long as you stay behind me, I'll show you a good time and get you home.
There's a "bedding in" that riders go through on long tours. The first day is a cross between nerves on a new bike and the joy of escaping the daily ritual …that sudden freefall feeling …alone in your helmet for two weeks…
Also there's nothing in your own language… The first day is a study in traffic patterns and flashbacks of your "riders meeting" with me, just before starting off.
"Ya'll seen the movie, ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' Well, we're in Toon Town. You can be riding along and a piano will just fall out of the sky…" Everybody laughs but the little man upstairs takes notice. They're watching what's going on now, paying attention. By the end of the day they're relaxed and tired. If they're not on their own bikes, their bodies will have to adjust to different bars, foot pegs… farther forward or back…and the creak in one's neck has moved an inch over.
Once in their rooms, they'll sort through their luggage for the first time and begin to leave important stuff towards the top. A surprising number of my customers bring old T shirts and jeans that they leave along the way. Some I collect and use myself… like these shorts for instance…
I'll usually gather us up and get us to a people watching place for that first beer. After that, we'll just decide as we go…
By day three there develops a trust between each of us. I know they're going to keep up and be safe, they know I have the con, I'm in control and they know I can deal with whatever comes up.
Towards the end of day three I know I need a day off even if they don't. It's a delicate balance to make 2700 miles in two weeks and still make your stops at places you really want to be. This balance is not something fixed. I'm always thinking about different routes and the right balance of high mountain twisties and low surfer beaches with a view and fun places to eat.
Some places are a must. San Cristobal de los Casas, in Southern Mexico is one such place. I try to keep us in nice hotels on our ride. This is two nights in the main square. A day off to catch up on internet, coffee shops and good live music even in the "off season".
Some stops are because you can't go another minute. A flat puts us behind, extra rain, a tender bottom…this is what makes these trips "custom". My plan is to somehow get us West in Mexico earlier. I spent some time in Puerto Escondido a couple years ago, and I want to go back.
Also, there are nice beaches to see all the way down. No, I'm not done exploring.

Our Bikes:
- We have two newish '08 Kawasaki KLRs with low mileage and two dirt/pavement carving 640 KTMs if it suits your fancy, for "in country" dashing.
