The American-European Real Estate Group is a group of real estate agents in Costa Rica that started working together back in the 90´s when there was no MLS in Costa Rica. In those times, most real estate agents in Costa Rica used to work everywhere in the country and the traffic started making this very difficult to do. So the three founding members, Kjersten van Horn, Barry Ashworth and Ivo Henfling, started a mini MLS in Costa Rica which at the time was an innovation. They first bought a database that would show properties with photos and prices and they could export between the members. That was even before the internet, which now feels like the stone ages. Ever since then, the American-European Real Estate Group has been able to reunite the leading real estate offices in Costa Rica and offer an amazingly wide range of real estate in Costa Rica.

Still today, after the world crisis has hit so many countries and the real estate business has changed forever, all our affiliate members have not only survived the bad market, they have become even stronger because of their shared knowledge of the Costa Rica real estate market.

Today, the American European Real Estate Group does not even try to compete with a recently started MLS in Costa Rica by the name of Tierra Max®, but actually is complementary to this MLS as the American European Real estate Group offers vacation rentals, different properties like mountain properties, beach properties and many other options, besides a variety of information about real estate in Costa Rica in general, information about immigration and living in Costa Rica and even a forum called Living in Costa Rica.

The American European Real estate Group is always actively seeking partners in areas not covered by our current partners. If you are a responsible Costa Rica Real estate agent and are an expert in an area not covered by a current affiliate and you have lots of properties with photos and prices, you can either upload your properties directly under our supervision or we can work with your web master to provide the listings through an XML feed. If you offer a valuable service to future residents of Costa Rica, we would be happy to tell our visitors about it too. Real Estate Brokers - Referral Policy

The American-European brokers and agents frequently work with other established brokers. If you are a full time real estate agent who is well established and reputable, then we would be happy to show your properties to our clients or vice versa. Our general rule is that if you are acting as a buyer's broker and want to earn 50% of the commission, then you must join our agent and vice versa. If you live in another country or area, we would be happy to attend to your client and would offer you a standard 25% referral fee.

In Costa Rica there is no licensing law and there are three real estate boards for realtors but being a member is not a must by law. This means that many taxi drivers, waiters, surfers, secretaries and others work as real estate agents in Costa Rica. This is a person who expects to earn half of the commission without holding themselves to the same standards, practices and concern for the client's welfare that a legitimate Costa Rica Real estate agent does. If you are one of these people we don't work with you!

We link to reputable sites throughout our content. If you have an established business and would like to write about it or tell us about it, we would be happy to post your information and link to your site, no strings attached! However, we cannot post property for sale by owner.
