Full Details: Located on the Pacific side of the Talamancan Mountain Range, Dota rises up to over 9000 feet, giving it a wide range of micro-climates. In the upper ranges an occasional frost during the cooler months is not uncommon., yet in the lower ranges tropical fruits such as pineapple flourish. The Los Santos Valley enjoys a near perfect comfort range hovering within a few degrees above and below 70F (20C) with no need for air conditioning. Lovely cool nights and crisp, clean air are taken for granted.
The majority of the people here live from agriculture. Small farms dot the mountainsides growing all sorts of crops from lettuce, potatoes, broccoli, mustard, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and much more. You can find apple, peach, plum and avocado orchards. Blackberries, raspberries and even blueberries grow both wild and are cultivated. Dairy farms are spread throughout the area. Fresh cheese is made daily in many households. Dota Coffee is renown across the planet and large coffee plantations are seen along the roadside everywhere.
Although there is an abundance of agriculture, the area is also home to one of the newest national parks in Costa Rica named after the Quetzal. The Quetzal National Park is over 5000 hectares (12,350 acres) in size. And encompasses three types of rain forests and 14 ecosystems. Dota also contains Los Santos Forest Reserve, Paramo Wildlife Refuge and Cerro Las Vueltas Biological Reserve.
