Not every property buyer is interested in using the services of professional Costa Rica real estate agents for one of the most difficult investments most ever make: the purchase of your retirement home. Some have an aversion to all sales people which includes real estate agents.

Some Costa Rica real estate agents are more interested in receiving their commission check than their client’s well-being, which is what turns any buyer off. This property has the best location in town
Does the agent know what area amenities, views and other advantages might be important to a buyer? Before you start searching for property, tell your Costa Rica real estate agent what kind of a location you are looking for, so when the agent uses the line “this property has the best location in town”, it makes sense.
This property never had a security problem
Because we do not have welfare in Costa Rica, so petty crime is quite common. The line “”this property never had a security problem” is probably a lie, unless you see the security with your own eyes. Investigate the area well first and tell your Costa Rica real estate agent you have done so. You can live in a gated community or a condo, so there is 24/7 security, or you make sure there is always someone home, depending on where you want to live in Costa Rica.
These properties are selling like hot cakes
This phrase is generally used by sales people selling condos or townhouses in a real estate development. Sales people in Costa Rica real estate developments are rarely Costa Rica real estate agents. Sales people use the line “these properties are selling like hot cakes”, which is probably a lie as there are quite some units left. Try driving by at night and you will see most, if not all lights, are off.
You are guaranteed to make a lot of profit down the line
The word “guaranteed” is what attracts you when investing in a property but should warn you to watch out. Costa Rica real estate agents don’t own a well-oiled crystal ball. “You are guaranteed to make a lot of profit down the line” is probably a lie.
This condo has an incredible ocean view
The sales office is probably full of ocean view photos. Once you visit the offered condo unit, you might find out that the phrase “this condo has an incredible ocean view” is a lie. Because only the most exclusive condos have a nice ocean view. Many condos might have an ocean view through binoculars or you can see the ocean between other buildings.
