Real Estate FAQ | Can I get a VA loan to buy property in Costa Rica?
Costa Rica is another country and doesn’t belong to the United States. It doesn’t belong to the US territories either. The VA doesn’t allow veteran mortgages outside the US.
Therefore, buying a property in Costa Rica with a VA loan is NOT an option for you.
Where can you purchase?
U.S. Territories and Possessions, where you are able to apply for a VA loan to buy property, are Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. These do NOT include Costa Rica.
Not familiar with VA loans? A VA loan is a home-mortgage option only available to United States Veterans, Service members and not remarried spouses. The VA loans are only issued by qualified lenders and guaranteed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Of course, United States Veterans can live in Costa Rica, receive their pension or disability check and have other advantages. Check here for more information.
In any case, if you are interested in making a foreign home purchase with a VA loan, contact a regional loan center for more information.
If they approve your loan to buy property in Costa Rica, it will be a real pleasure to assist you in your purchase.
